The Septuagint - Part 1


The first adjustment when creating the Septuagint was to place the name of G-d as the first word in the translation. In the original Hebrew, the words are literally: (1) 'in the beginning', (2) 'created', (3) 'G-d'.

But in Greek, the sages did not want to give the blasphemous impression that some force called "in the beginning" created G-d. Therefore they made "G-d" the first Greek word in the Septuagint, so that the order of the above words in Greek is 3-2-1.

Based on this, we looked for an ELS for "G-d created" near the first 3 words of the (Hebrew) Torah. Shown in the picture is exactly that: G-d (red) - created (blue).

The ELS meets exactly with the end of the first 2 words of Genesis (green and pink, 'in the beginning' and 'created').
